16 October 2007
Tuesday 16 October was the first night of our new permanent venue at Cornerstone House, 14 Willis Rd, Croydon CR0 2XX. It was a very successful meeting.

The evening started with a successful warm-up from the Toastmaster of the Day Peter Robinson, and was followed by very capable functionaries such as Godfrey Nurse (Timekeeper), Frank Thatcher (Grammarian), Wendy Mota (Ah Counter).

The prepared speeches from Don Grant, Vanessa Buck and Remi Ladega helped to set the tone for theevening. Remi was especially inspiring in her # 10 speech against FUD (Fear, uncertainty and doubt). Remi really stretched out of her comfort zone with confident voice projection, vocal variety and body gestures and actions dramatising the words. She had the whole audience in rapt attention. The formal evaluations were good too.

Satyen Deepchand stepped into the Topics Master role at short notice. He gave a chance to those not on the formal programme to have a go at impromptu speaking. Well Done.

Chris Howell, Area 35 Governor, gave lots of praise in his general evaluator comments.

Awards went to the following:
Most improved speaker was Remi Ladega
Best Evaluator was Joan Jardine
Best Table Topics speaker was David Langworthy

Two guests signed-up to become members on the spot, on their first and second visit to us.

Afterwards I met with Chris Howell as he did a formal observation on the club which is fed back to Toastmasters International. He gave us top marks. We are a strong, quality club.

My heartfelt thanks to you all. It was a night of special atmosphere, warmth and support from everyone. You made it a quality experience.

You help to make us the premier club of Croydon.
We are the club for discerning people who want to become quality speakers.
