Yet another evening of entertainment! Having missed toastmasters for two weeks I was greatly impressed by the new blood that’s been injected in so short a time.
The meeting was officially opened by our president Richie, who recognised Sudanta & Dil as new members by presenting them with the toastmaster’s pin. Congratulations and welcome to The Speakers of Croydon Club.
Craig Mills guided us through the evening; what an excellent job! He put our vocals to test by getting us to sing “Happy Birthday” to David Bridgeman in celebration of his 21st, I think!! Sudanta time keeper for the first time, spiced up his role and humoured us throughout the evening with his unique style. Linda, in a very calm and epigrammatic way, explained the grammarian’s role and introduced the word of the day: “EPIGRAMATIC”.
The three main entertainers;
Shegun’s icebreaker “The Story of My Life” was an award winner just like the marathon run he had completed over the weekend.
It was an inspirational tale exceeding expectations from an icebreaker with a powerful message on the power of self belief:
“I can do anything I put my hands to.”
Niki Ajayi delivered her no 4 entitled “My Road, Your Road, Our Road”. Nikki challenged us all, especially the men, by unravelling before us her picture of THE IDEAL partner capable of giving love, affection, fun and at the same time intellectual stimulation, reliability, respectability and trust. Not worthy of anything less…
Richie with his advanced speech demonstrated how to receive an award with grace: “Toastmasters is about: Thinking, Changing & Leading. Good leadership is going where there is no path and leaving a trail. To inspire people you must be inspired to inspire yourself”.
After some insightful evaluations from Godfrey Nurse, David Bridgeman and Joseph de Souza, more entertainment followed from
David Langworthy as topics master. What talent, what originality! We were further bedazzled by some of our guests, new and existing members with spectacular entertainment in the table topics session. Last but not least our general evaluator John Tomsky summarised the evening in style with a lot of humour and lessons for all of us.
The final message came from the president Richie “Wherever you wake up this morning, you can begin from wherever you are” The lesson for me; it’s never too late to start afresh…
