 | | | | Feel free to contact us with any questions, suggestions or feedback. | | | | | | | 31 August 2004 | | | | The evening began with our very own Richard Lewis at the steering wheel. To warm up for the journey, he challenged our vocals with tongue twisters, reminding me of those early years at school.
Assisting our toastmaster were his two navigators; Hanna Hunter as timekeeper and Beatrice Nabulya as grammarian, who introduced the word of the day: redoubtable: illustrious, eminent, worthy of respect or honour, arousing fear or alarm, formidable.
Up came our four celebrities in Richard Lewis’ car.
Celia Edwards illustrated “The Power of Change” through a tale of transformation leading her out of the jungles of Brazil and into the law courts of the British Justice System. Nice wig.
Jackie Barrie demonstrated her passion for saving endangered species; SHARKS in this case!! “Sharks are not the villains they are the victims”. And the strangest thing is: it really made sense.
Thandi Haruperi demonstrated the “Courage of Conviction”, inspiring us with the lessons of her personal journey. “A mind that has been stretched by an idea can never revert to its original dimension”.
Peter Gerlach explored the “Mysteries of Meat” in his informative speech, shocking us with statistics on the dangers of carnivorousness and exposing just why meat tastes so good…
Many thanks to Shegun Olusanya, David Langworthy, Martyn Howden and Colin Austin for their insightful evaluations.
After the break, our topics Master Alan Gayle, bought us all a one way ticket to the Olympics in Athens. Congratulations to all the contestants for coming home with gold medals. Not to mention the insightful evaluations by the coaches, Charles Njoku, Alex Ward and our very own general evaluator Carol West.
