Competition time
At the meeting on 16th September 2008 we will be holding our annual humorous speech and table topics contests.
2007/8 Success
Speakers of Croydon again achieved the recognition of being 'President's Distinguished Club' by Toastmasters International for the year 2007/2008. This is the fourth year running that we have achieved this accolade and each club president has had the honour of maintaining a 100% record in this programme.
Spring Competition Results
A wonderful achievement by Ms Joan Jardine who went all the way to the divisional rounds of the District Evaluation Competition. David Langworthy reached the area round of the International Speech Competition but full credit to Joan for going that little bit further!
New toastmasters year
We were recognized as a 'President's Distinguished Club' by Toastmasters International for the year 2007/2008. The new committee took office at the beginning of July and we hope to be just as successful next year.
Autumn Competition Results
Our resident 'CTM' from Mauritius, Satyen Deepchand, surprised everyone, including himself by excelling in the humourous speech competion and went on to represent our club in the area competition in Greenwich. Here he was admirably supported by David Langworthy who was the club representative in the table topics competion.
Advanced Success
Many toastmasters leave their club after completing the first 10 basic speeches, but Speakers of Croydon is fairly unique in having members who are eager to step up right away to the next level. Congratulations to Jackie, David, Peter, Francoise, and Sudanta for achieving advanced status this calender year.
Year 2006/7
As another toastmaster's year comes to a close, Speakers of Croydon scores a hat-trick by becoming a 'President's Distinguished Club' for the third year running.
Spring Competition Results
Well done to relative 'new comer' Remi Ladega and experienced 'old hand' Sudanta Abeyakoon for winning the Club International Speech and Evaluations Contests. Both members went on to represent the club at the area contest, held at the Fairfield Hotel, Croydon where Remi was runner up in her competition.
Bumper November
Well what a month November has been for the Speakers of Croydon with no less than 4 speakers becoming 'Competent Communicators'. Congratulations to William Linsdell, Alan Gayle, Gregory Edwards, and Kola Olutimehin.
Competition Results
Congratulations to William Linsdell and new-comer Jason Peck for winning the club humorous speech and table topics cometitions. Good luck in the Area Competition in Bromley on October 14th.
Mr Education leads by example
Our Vice President Education, Mr Peter Robinson, got 2006/7 off to a flying start by completing his competent communicator and competent leadership awards in the same month. Peter you are truly an inspiration!
Year 2005/6 another resounding success
For the second year running, Speakers of Croydon has been presented with the 'Presidents' Distinguished Club' accolade, the highest award in the toastmasters' calender.
Carol West: ATM Gold
Carol achieved her Advanced Toastmaster Gold Award in style following a highly successful evaluation workshop held in May. Congratulations go to Carol for this tremendous achievement and for consolidating her position as the most experienced speaker within the club.
Two more Competent Leaders join the ranks
Sudanta Abeyakoon and Joan Jardine in June both completed their Competent Leader qualification, recognising the terrific work that they have both put into the running of the club.
Year 2004/5 Presidents Distinguished Club
Under the stewardship of Richie Dayo Johnson and John Tomsky, the Speakers of Croydon was awarded the top toastmasters club performance standard.
Year 2003/4 Distinguished Club
It is the club objective for every toastmasters club to become 'distinguished' in terms of club performance and members' educational achievment. In its first full year of operation, Speakers of Croydon successfully achieved this objective.
