Having worked in computer support for 20 years I managed to avoid any form of public speaking. I decided to change that and joined Speakers of Croydon in October 2007. At first I felt it was very difficult and intimidating, but with practice it gets easier all the time.
The atmosphere is friendly and encouraging. I particularly like the fact that all different levels of skill are represented. It frees me from feeling that everything I say and do must be perfect. Instead I can take pride in the things I do well while still aspiring to do better next time. |
