Many thanks to all those who have stepped forward to become club officers and let's make our first year as a chartered club a great one.

Spring Conference in Limerick

This year's international spring conference was a great weekend for the Speakers of Croydon. David Thompson was declared the new Govenor for District 71, with responsibility for the UK and Ireland until the Summer of 2005.

At the Council Meeting in Limerick, David gave some truly inspirational speeches, mostly improvised !! It was a great moment for toastmasters and especially for the Speakers of Croydon.

John Tomsky also gave a strong performance in the final of the international speech contest. Although it wasn't good enough to get a top three placing John will undoubtedly be back for more in years to come...

The 2004 Area Final

The Area 14 Contest saw club champions from all over Surrey and Kent battle against one another for a chance to win the next rounds of the International Speech and Evaluation contests.

David Gordon dazzled the audience with a newly improved version of 'One', the speech with which he won the club round, beating Kat Robertson from Kent Speakers in second place and Michael Watson from Epsom Speakers in third place.

Contest night

Croydon's first contest night saw some truly amazing performances from 8 speakers and 5 evaluators. It was a great night - thanks to everyone who helped out with timekeeping, votecounting, judging and other roles!

The International Speech Contest results were:

David Gordon - 1st
Joseph de Souza - 2nd
Nikki Ajayi - 3rd

The evaluation contest results were:

Richie Dayo Johnson - 1st
David West - 2nd
Joseph se Souza - 3rd

A new club is born!

After nine months, Toastmasters officially gives birth to a newly chartered club - the Speakers of Croydon. Thanks to David(s), Richie, Brian, Carol and all for making it happen (1/2/04).
