TUESDAY 4TH MAY REPORT BY PAULINE HARDY

The evening was blessed with a total of 16 attendees; three of whom were guests. Let’s hope that they enjoyed the evening enough to come again, and, maybe even join our ranks
Unfortunately, Abbi, ”VP Education”, was poorly and was, unusually, absent.

Agnes performed well in her role of “Toastmaster”. A role which she had not performed before. Sarah was “timekeeper”. Her description of the role making it sound interesting as well as extremely valuable

There seems to be a problem with people being allocated a speaking slot not attending. This has occurred regularly in recent months. Fortunately, Camilla, who was back up speaker, stepped into the breach and presented her CC2 Speech. It was entertaining and informative. Entitled, “What’s in it for me”? It was about volunteering. Even though it was the only competitive speech, I am sure that it would, definitely, have been in the running for “Best Speech” on any other night. Pauline was her evaluator.

There was, also, an educational speech from David Langworthy, area governor. There is not much room for humour or innovativeness in these formatted speeches. But, it was informative.

Jack found himself with, not only his allocated role of “Ah counter” but, also, “Grammarian”. He filled this role well with a novel way of choosing the word for the night, which was, “emulate”. This word was used by a number of speakers.

Joan, as” Table Topics Master”, chose a great selection of topics for her victims! All of them were very relevant, including “volcanoes” and “manifestos”. Two of the three guests agreed to participate; a baptism of fire. Good for them” Deirdre was victorious with her, hilarious, short speech on manifestos; discussing the aspect of “thinning”! The mind boggles!

Vanessa was Table Topics Evaluator; she also told us a, humorous, true story in the “”Jokemaster” slot.

Philip, as ”general evaluator” was witty, and the evening ended...... on time!
